This is a mural that was made by Charley Harper at the Cincinnatti Federal Building, USA, and stretched along two walls are 100 animals put together with tiles. Finished in 1964, they each measure 18 × 10.5 ft.

Charley Harper’s work is well documented in the book Illustrated Life book by Todd Olham and to be able to see this would definitely be a treat. Those of you in Cincinnati had better head there right now (I’m green with envy!)

Loving the beautiful typography and embroidery of Maricor/Maricar. They make kick-ass things from paper and thread, with a portfolio that encompasses a wide range of disciplines spread across mediums from paper to video (their latest work is a stop motion video for Big Green Idea!)

From their “About” page:
We have an unusual obsession with paper and patterns, like geeking out with gachapon toys and enjoy getting crafty with embroidery and fimo.

Apart from their website, they have a blog and an online shop which you can stalk from time to time — I know I definitely going to do that (and I bet our contributor @RachealAnilyse is going to do so too!)

Jamie’s NYC Art Trip

Jamie Shelman NYC Art Trip

Jamie Shelman, my co-conspirator for the Pikaland Artist Bootcamp will be hosting a 5-week online art course that will be supplemented with a trip to NYC starting 10th April! (Dates for meeting in NYC will be during April 28- May 1, 2011)

Her course is open to artists at any level and any medium – with weekly assignments aimed at developing a sense of place through your art by exploring your own natural surroundings (and using NYC as as a source of inspiration!) If you can’t make it to NYC, it’s okay too — you can pick the whole shebang or just do it wholly online, it’s your pick!

I wish I could go! Visiting NYC is a dream of mine, and what better way to spend it than visiting museums and galleries with fine guides to take you around town!

If you’re going, perhaps you’d consider taking me along?
Pretty please?
