So true.
Happy Monday!

Title: In the Wild: Drawings by Nigel Peake
Hardcover, 144 pages
Architect turned artist and illustrator Nigel Peake (previously) was one of my heroes – having successfully transitioned from drawing buildings to, well, drawing not just buildings, but everything else under the sun. I’ve been eagerly awaiting his latest book ever since I’ve failed at attempts to procure some of his zines (they were all sold out when I discovered him!)
He works and lives in the Irish countryside, and it’s where the book is based on. In the Wild: Drawings by Nigel Peake features a smorgasbord of his detailed ink drawings and muted watercolors – almost one hundred of them intricately capturing the fine details of living in “the middle of nowhere” as he affectionately calls it.
What I love about Nigel is his ability to strip the complicated away from everyday matters, and present them in almost subjective forms. The resulting textures and movement are what makes his work so special – they’re transparent, intricate, and very distinct. From tractors, to fields and boats to birds, Nigel translates his idyllic surroundings into organized patterns.
The book is filled with patterns – and it’s patterns that best describe what Nigel does best – interpreting, repeating them and rendering them.
You can get a copy of his book over at Amazon, and see more of his work on his website.

And I had fun editing this short book clip I captured on camera. While it’s not the best at the moment, it goes to show that it’s never too late to teach an old dog new tricks, ha! 😉
Happy weekend everyone!
I’ve been playing around with Tumblr for a while now and it’s been an interesting few weeks! All I know is that I love the fellow Tumblrs I’ve been meeting online, and it’s amazing to be able to share content so easily. I love that I am able to be quickly updated on new works by fellow artists (via the dashboard); and it feels like our own secret hangout!
So now Pikaland has it’s own Tumblr blog, and get this — if you’re on Tumblr, you can submit your work via Tumblr directly by heading to the submission page. I’ll be going through them before posting them up, but how cool is that?
And I’m on the lookout for a new theme – if you have a favorite, do let me know in the comments! 🙂
