The Book Cover Archive

I think I might have just stumbled upon my version of a candy store with The Book Cover Archive. The title of website is exactly what it is: a giant depository and archive of beautiful book covers, including the design info that they could find for each one (art director, typeface, etc.). One of my favorites is the collection directed by John Gall where the books are framed like a diorama (see the last image above!)

I can spend hours just browsing through the whole site, and something tells me that you might just be propelled to do the same if you’re a bookaholic like me.

There’s not going to be a book review this week — in fact I’m taking a few days off as it’s a holiday over here, so I’ll be leaving you with an interview with Lilli Carré by Melanie.

See you on Monday and have a great weekend!

Donna Wilson

Realizing that her odd knitted toys had garnered an audience after it all sold out during her final show, Donna Wilson started her own line in 2003 after graduating from the Royal College of Art. What follows is a collection that is as eclectic as it is fun. From fun characters – Meg, an avid traveler – to a few new additions including Meg’s boyfriend (he’s the bearded one), Donna’s shop is not only filled with quirky characters eternalized in plush toys, but is also well stocked with curious cushions, luxurious lambswool blankets, and variety of products that will make your house guest smile.

What I love about her collection is that it straddles the very fine line between sweet without being overly girly. The characters and their world are made up just right and perfect, and would seem cool in a guy’s pad as much as a lady’s apartment (let me know if I’m wrong on this one!)

Read all about her in the interviews she has given throughout these past few years, all collected and bundled neatly into a PDF that you can download!

D.I.Y. Art Kits

Lately I’ve really been drawn to D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself) art kits and was so excited to stumble across, like a drunken sailor, these beauties!

I LOVE the Letter Press Paper House Kit- Chandler Lane by 1canoe2 I want to buy a whole series and set up a small village in my bedroom. I’ve also been admiring these D.I.Y. Collage Kits by Anthony Zinonos @Little Paper Planes and am seriously tempted to purchase just to see what’s inside! (Would also be perfect source material for our current Visual Journaling class!)

And I’m imagining embroidering hundreds of alligators on my bedspread using the A Alligator and Albatross PDF File Embroidery Pattern by penguinandfish. Pretty soon my whole room would be filled with D.I.Y. Art kit related works which I would take pictures of my 15 cats in the middle of, or at least try not to trip over on the way to the bathroom at night!

If you were to package and sell a D.I.Y. Art Kit what would it be?
