Ever been in a situation or seen things that you had to control yourself not to blurt out loud? Well then the drawings of Berlin-based Katrin Hagen of Mischief Champion will definitely ring a few bells! With new drawings unveiled every Monday and Thursday, you’ll be able to start and end your week on a funny (and oftentimes, insane) note.

Isn’t this just a colourless version of julia potts?
Oh wow. I actually thought that was Julia Pott’s work. Funny stuff though.
Julia’s work is amazing, but I only recently discovered it (long after I’d started Mischief Champion).
Julia’s stylistic quality is different, and uses text as a graphic element. Mischief Champion is focused on jokes, it aims more at being ‘comic’ than ‘illustrative.’
I hope people who consider it more closely will see this.
Hi Tone & Erin, I wrote to Julia Pott about this and here is her reply:
I can totally see where they’re coming from, at first glance yes we use the same ideas and I have had a lot of people getting in touch about various illustrators who use animals and type, but that’s not such an original idea, I can’t lay claim to it! There are a few people out there who do seem to be copying me (which is flattering I guess, but also quite annoying!) but I think Mischief Champion isn’t! Her drawings of people look nothing like mine and I rarely work in pen which she appears to be using, like someone said, it’s more comic and about the comedy of the piece than as an illustration.
I think it’s important to note that style can be deceiving. When looking at works that some feel are similar, a good yardstick would be to look at the context which they are in. I hope this clears things up! 🙂
I love this work by Katrin Hagen and I love the work of julia Pott both are genius!
