Giveaway #30: Little Paper Press – Katy Horan

lpp - katy horan

I didn’t do a gift guide this year. Or last year either. I think it’s safe to say I won’t be doing them anytime soon because I think that others are doing a bang up job and well, I don’t think I could make it look good as they do! But I will give you this: How about we ramp up the giveaways on Pikaland here just for the holiday season? Oh, say for a week?

Yes, that’s right — there will be ONE giveaway ONCE a day for ONE whole week.

Starting with this wonderful exclusive limited edition letterpress print by Katy Horan for Little Paper Press. I’m a big fan of Kelly Lynn Jones’ Little Paper Planes shop where you can find lots of wonderful art by contemporary artists and illustrators up for sale, and Little Paper Press is an extension of their site – they produce prints and collectibles that are exclusive to the store.

Okido Magazine

okido

Okido is an art & science magazine targeted at readers aged 2 to 7 years old, and sets out to make learning fun. Based in the UK, the magazine has a host of characters such as Messy Monster, Squirrel Boy, Yoga Monkey and Zim Zam Zoom that kids will love, as well as an array of games and cooking ideas which all help to explain the fun of science and art. Their latest issue (#10) deals with feelings and emotions. (WHOA!)

Okido is the brainchild of multimedia designer and scientist, Sophie Dauvois and illustrator Rachel Ortas, and is beautifully illustrated by contemporary artists and designers. They’re always on the lookout for illustrators, so if you’d like to add your touch to the magazine, email alex{AT}okido.co.uk.

Other things to note: Okido magazine is a non profit organization and contains no corporate adverts. Best of all, the magazine is printed with biodegradable links on 100% post consumer recycled paper and is not harmful to children or the environment. The magazine looks promising, and if I had a kid, I’d get them a copy. Better yet, a subscription, even!

music monday: damomatic

Here’s a fun little playlist titled “Lovesick Minor at Night” I stumbled upon from East London based graphic designer Damien (Damomatic). I suggest looking up the music on blip or last.fm while browsing his site. Damien has some great typography work.
