I’m really amazed by the wonderful talent that’s graduating from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Israel – I’ve profiled quite a few of them already here on the blog, and here’s another – Yael Albert.
I see that she’s still feeling her way around character styles and is experimenting (which is great), but she’s already off to a great start!
The last time when I participated in the Sketchbook Project. organized by the friendly folks at Art House Co-op, it was 2009 (you can see my sketchbook here). And right now as I’m typing this, they’ve recently opened up submissions for their 2012 Sketchbook Project (which is 100% community funded by the way) – which is akin to a concert for sketchbooks. They bring it around cross country in the USA, scan them for you (for a small fee) and basically treat them like royalty – showing them off at whatever chance they get. Best of all, 2012 is the year where they’ll break international boundaries and will exhibit at places like London and Melbourne.

Barcelona-born Alex Noriega had been having issues at work when he started drawing these witty one-line comics in an attempt to sort things out in his mind. Neatly compiled into a blog that’s called Stuff No One Told Me, his comics are funny, straight to the point in an almost deadpan yet cute sort of way.
I recommend you read his About page as well – in it he details how at one point he wasn’t able to live off his illustrations and had to find a desk job (hasn’t it happened to us all at one point?) The good news is that he’s now working on a graphic novel that also details what happened in his time of aforementioned crisis, and I can’t wait to see how he got himself out of it!
