Laugh

Laugh

I learned very early that an audience would relax and look at things differently if they felt they could laugh with you from time to time. There’s an energy that comes through the release of tension that is laughter.

How about adding some humor and fun into your illustrations? 😉

Happy Monday folks!

Review: Wrap magazine

Wrap

Once in a while a magazine comes along and blows the rest out of the water. Wrap is that kind of magazine.

Because oh no, it’s not one of those magazines that you throw away when you’re done with it. It’s not one of those that you tear out sheets with your bare hands, relegated to the poo bin. Oh no. It’s a keeper, or at least you hope that whoever gets second dibs on Wrap after you will notice. Because when you’re done with Wrap, it’s time to wrap something with it.

It’s so brilliant that I am cursing at myself for not thinking of it earlier.

Wrap

Wrap

There are no staples to ruin the patterns, and they’re held together by these fabric bands (the kind that I used to tie my hair with, only longer.)

They’re bloody genius, the team at Wrap.

When I first saw the magazine online, I thought that the size was a normal, everyday magazine – including the size. Well when it arrived in the mail, it was on the floor instead of inside my mailbox because it was too big. It was so big, that when the postman tossed it into my home my dogs could be buried under it and might possibly be injured. So yes, it’s big. I might be exaggerating a little but I meant to say that the magazine is the size of a broadsheet paper, but imagine – it’s loads meatier in terms of paper quality and heft. It’s brilliant.

Wrap

Inside, the Wrap team interviews artists and illustrators and features articles on art, craft and the like. In this issue, Wrap features Ben Javens, Lesley Barnes and Donna Wilson, among many others. The patterns are big, bold and beautiful, making them perfect for wrapping presents (although I DARE you to do so – because I can’t bear the thought of other people’s hands ripping them apart!)

Wrap

Oh and did I tell you that they prepared notecards to go along with the wrapping paper as well? Yup. Perforated and ready to be used with each pattern – it’s a mini-collection of pretty packaging material! And that’s not all – the gang at Wrap also has lots of other fab cards and stickers if you’re not well prepared for the holiday gift-giving madness.

You can get a copy of Wrap here, and for now, I’m pasting them up my wall as posters instead. At least then I know it’s safe and sound from grubby, greedy hands.

Wrap

This here? Not happening with my copy.
