dana bell

Dana Bell says so much in her paintings using very little elements. It’s an example of Gestalt Theory applied to art: the mind supplies the missing pieces in a composition. Bell trusts our intelligence enough to allow our minds fill in the blanks.

Check out Bell’s latest work which is influenced by films from Alfred Hitchcock, and the 50’s and 60’s. What more needs to be said, go check it out!

my milk toof update

Remember this post from back in November where I asked the Gods of Publishing to please make a book about Inhae Renee Lee’s little milk teefs named ickle and Lardee?

Well, all of that chanting, sage burning, and ritualistic pilgramages to the Milk Toof blog did not go in vain because I’m happy to pass on word that Chronicle Books will be publishing a Milk Toof book in Spring 2011.

Praise be to teef!

music monday: devendra banhart

If you love the ’60’s, hippies, love, incense, spirit animals, and the color yellow, Devendra Banhart is the indie musician for you. His beautifully simple drawings really reflect his whimsy musical style. I find it interesting when artists dabble in various genres. Sometimes the style changes with the medium. Not here. All folk art…in sound and on paper.

Since his site is being updated, have a listen to Devendra on last.fm.
