Katy Horan’s illustrations and paintings are very different from many others I’ve seen. Her style is one that’s firmly rooted in a folksy way — drawing from a well of mythical creatures, witches and horned ladies. She’s been featured around the blogosphere already, but I love her work and thought that I might share.

Takashi Iwasaki moved to Canada from Japan five years ago, and also runs Semai Gallery in Winnipeg. I don’t remember where I heard of him before, but I was reminded again of his works in Design Sponge’s post.

His pieces are playful and whimsical, expressing positive feelings with the consideration on the formal qualities of shape, color, composition and space. I particularly feel his embroideries, collages and abbie drawings — a generalized nickname for Iwasaki’s abstract drawings and a play on the word ab -stract — are fantastically inspiring.

Kristiana Pärn was born in Estonia in 1979, and sells under the name of krisblues on Etsy.

I can’t seem to find more information on her portfolio site, but she does have a holiday blog where I found that she also sells her winter note cards.

My favorite has to be her illustration of foxes — they look like they are dancing in the woods! Her prints can also be found at Capucine and at the Blue Sky Gallery in Brooklyn, New York.

Her website seems to load rather slowly when I last checked, but she also has a fun variety of work that’s really inspiring.
