I’ve been noticing Stuttgart based artist Julia Humpfer’s style for quite some time now, and I’m happy to see that she is slowly growing out of her shell. Her current style is a mix of hand-drawn elements and digital effects which is done over an initial pencil sketch. I think it works well because she is trying hard to not lose those pencil lines and incorporate them into the artwork instead – because that’s where the magic is!

You can see her progress as she crosses over from cutesy illustrations to those inspired by folklore over on Flickr and also her Etsy shop.

Laughing out loud at the work and descriptions of these paintings by John Malta, an illustrator and zine maker who is currently residing in New York as he completes an MFA at the School of Visual Arts. Check out his online shop for some collectible rad stuff (loving those necklaces!)

I wish that all artists title their paintings these way. Or at least, add a bit more descriptions into the mix so that others can get a better grasp of what’s on their mind when they put paint on canvas! Bravo John!
