Karen Cheung

Karen Cheung is an illustrator and animator based in the UK with a wonderful style. Her characters are lively and fun, as are her sketches in graphite. She was the winner of the Macmillan prize for Children’s Picture Book Illustration in 2006 — not a bad feat at all for someone who used to be a zoologist!

Looking through her beautiful website, it’s evident she has an offbeat sense of humor that I appreciate. Watch out for this lady, as she’s planning to open up shop soon!

The Talented Chicken

Parisa Mahmoudi sent me an email to let me know about her new book entitled The Talented Chicken, which is now available for purchase (via email). The story is about a mother hen who is is prodding and pushing her young chick to fly, swim and sing… and seems to forget that her young one is only a chicken!

The book may be in Persian, but the storyline will definitely ring true anywhere in the world.

Mumbreeze

Look at the fabulous paper-mâché objects by Mumbreeze. A collaboration between Kinya and Kao Hanada, the shop is an outlet for their analog hand-made artworks as Kinya has worked under the moniker Mumbleboy making Flash animations and videos.

See the whole collection of their paper-mâché works on their flickr stream.
