Meera Lee Patel: The Rooster and the Unicorn

From Meera Lee Patel comes a two-part tete beche (head-to-toe) book about an unlikely friendship between a rooster and a unicorn. It’s a beautiful story that is deeper than it lets on, and definitely warrants repeated readings.

Handmade and bound, the book features Meera’s watercolor illustrations, individually appliqued with gold leaf; and is for adults and kids alike.

One of my favorite excerpts from the book:
“Her sadness was a poison that crystallized when she cried, leaving her face scratched for days.”

You can get a copy over at Meera’s Etsy shop.

Artists from all across the design spectrum as well as all across North America were included, and among them: Anne Benjamin, Aesthetic Apparatus, Burlesque of North America, Delicious Design League, Doublenaut, Hero Design Studio, James Flames, Kevin Tong, LandLand, Spike Press and Two Arms.

Oh and if you’re in Chicago, the series will be making its official debut at the Button-O-Matic series release party on September 7, 6-9pm, at the Busy Beaver headquarters!

Take note folks: You know you’ve hit a truckload of artist gold ink when you have your work on people’s body. When people love your work enough to permanently show it on their bodies? Priceless.

Also priceless: Other people’s laughter ringing in your ears once you tell them that that these weren’t done (with a Sharpie) in a momentary lapse of judgement – and that they’re here to stay.

Ooops.
