Tip of the week: Back up!

Back up now!

Good Monday folks!

I’m here to remind you to back up your data if you haven’t done so in a while. (Double cringe if you have NEVER done a backup before!)

It’s relatively easy if you have a Mac computer — I just hook it up to an external drive (mine’s a red 250GB beauty from Seagate) and I run the Time Machine application and let it run. Within a few minutes, I’ll have a working copy of my computer on a spare drive, in case anything unthinkable happens to my lappy.

I was once unfortunate enough to lose all 6 months worth of data when my laptop went bonkers on me, and I was cursing and tearing out my hair to no end. So to avoid the above scenario happening again, in addition to backing up every 10 days or so, I keep my working files on a DropBox account so that I can access them anywhere. Call me anal, but I prefer to be fully prepared if a stroke of bad luck ever strikes!

Have you backed up your data lately? If you haven’t, I suggest you get busy – we don’t want all that hard work of yours disappearing into thin air now, do we?

Have a lovely week ahead!

p/s—Thanks to those who participated in our Camp Pikaland survey last week. The survey will be up until 20th June and it would be great if you could take a few minutes of your time to help us out by answering a few questions!

Camp Pikaland: A survey!

As a few of you may already know, I’ll soon be launching Camp Pikaland, in a month or two. What I haven’t really let on is that Camp Pikaland will be a website that’s dedicated to learning for artists, illustrators, and crafters! I’m in the last few stages of making the website ready for launch while adding fantastic teachers to our roster, and I have to say that I’m really excited!

I’ve been keeping this under wraps for quite some time now because I was still working out the kinks and figuring things out, but I’ve decided that I’ve been keeping this away from you all for too long! As this may very well be one of the biggest projects I’ve ever attempted at Pikaland, I wanted to get your suggestions, views and most importantly, I want to hear what you would like to experience in an online learning environment (what worked for you, what didn’t?) — and hence, a survey is the best way to do so!

+ teachers wanted

We’re also continuously on the lookout for teachers and tutors who would like to share their knowledge with the Pikaland community. So if you know any one else who would make a kick-ass teacher (or if I’ve inadvertently missed you out of the equation!) — I’d love to hear from you! Just send me an email and we’ll get the ball rolling!

Until then, if you have any helpful suggestions, and comments feel free to email me as well — I appreciate any guidance and feedback to help make this project even better for the community!

Thank you all for being a part of the Pikaland family — I wouldn’t be able to have come this far had it not been for your support! 🙂

I’m a big fan of Heather Moore’s (aka Skinny Laminx) tea towels, and while I was at Cloud9 Fabrics, I was ecstatic to see that she now has her very own fabric collection!

I can’t wait to see more designers on Cloud9 Fabrics — I see that Julia Rothman is up next, and also Michéle Brummer-Everett (previously). Michelle Engel Bencsko is a personal hero of mine and I can foresee that Cloud9 will cause quite a ripple in the fabric industry!

Go ladies!
