We are a happy family

Back in the day, my cousins and I used to play Happy Family – a card game that involves pairing up whole family members via random card pickings. I loved the retro illustrations on them, but unfortunately lost mine during my move 10 years ago.

So when I heard about the new we are a happy family cards, a project by Esti of Píntame el día that brought together 8 international artists to illustrate the families for the cards, I was thrilled! Thereza Rowe, Sarajo Frieden, Lotte Andkilde, Lady Desidia, Pintameldia, Alexandra Hedberg, Aris Moore and Kimberly Laurenti all took part in the illustrations, while the box was designed by Jorge Fernández. Proceeds will also go to Doctors without borders, so you can play knowing that you’ve helped someone out as well.

I now have a sudden urge to find some friends to sit down and play cards again. Do kids these days play cards at all, I wonder?

It’s a rainy Friday over here (right now!), and I can’t resist the urge to cuddle up with a blanket. But before I head off for some R&R, there’s a post for a book review coming up later in the evening which I think that would make the best ending to a hectic week (did you see what the news was?).

See you all later!

Prozaque

It’s not everyday that you get email with the subject that reads like spam – tailored especially for you; but thank goodness I didn’t trash this in the virtual bin so quickly!

Raymond Brekelmans designed this OpenType font that smacks of character (and nothing says character more than a name like Prozaque, of course.)

Stuart Sandler of fontdiner.com (it’s the place with lots of fun retro fonts) programmed it, and no wonder — the font reminds me of fun, bubbly cartoon characters… DeeDee from Dexter’s Laboratory instantly comes to mind!

PikaPackage Project 2010

We’ve just launched the community site for Pikaland peeps last week, and now on to our second big announcement – the launch of the PikaPackage Project for 2010!

The impetus for this came two years ago, when I realized that the creative community needed to get their work “out there”, and I took the idea literally and ran with it. The project is a specially curated, themed and community-driven swap and marketing tool for illustrators and artists. Everyone has fun, and get lovely art in return.

Two days ago, a special invite was sent to artists on the Pikaland mailing list (you can join in too), and now the roster of artists for the first round is almost full.

Since I took some time off from the PikaPackage project last year, I had some time to think about how to make it better, and I’m pleased to say that the time off is worth it. The project is back and off to a wonderful start. If you’d like to take part, then head HERE to throw your hat into the ring!

Get ready guys — 2010 is definitely going to be a fun year!
