So long, Actaeon!

You know how some people think that Photoshop is all hard, edgy and too graphic-y for illustration works? Well Andrew Lyons here will prove you wrong. With beautiful, organic lines and lots of rich textures, this English illustrator – who is currently based in Normandy, France – adds much life and vibrancy into his illustration with the help of the digital software.

My favorite illustration from his portfolio is this piece based on an article about ‘twitter envy’, where people tweeting from high profile events can cause jealousy amongst their twitter followers.

Here’s a shop where you can find some prints, and here’s his Flickr stream as well.

The truth about sitting down

Sitting Kills Infographic

This infographics just confirmed what I was thinking all along — that sitting down for extended periods of time has made me gain weight, slowly, but surely over the past couple of years.

For those like me who are on their computer or desks for long stretches at a time (I’m talking to you, artists, illustrators and fellow bloggers!) remember to take a break and walk about every 15 to 30 minutes to get the blood flowing again!

Consider this a health advisory message from Pikaland! 😉

Anatomical Nesting Dolls

Stuntkid

How amazing are these nesting dolls by Jason Levesque – aka Stuntkid – made for an upcoming show at the Rothick Art Haus? I may not have known what the innards of a matryoshka looked like before, and now that I have, a part of me still wishes that I don’t. Of course it’s mostly a wow for me, although there was a “ewwww, gross” moment when I first saw it! The good kind, of course.
