Jason Nelson sent me a link to his latest endeavor: an artgame called Scrape Scraperteeth that was produced for the San Francisco Gallery of Modern Art (SFMOMA) for a series on interactive poetry/art.
I have to say, as an old-school adventure gamer – it’s an interesting genre! Jason’s hand-made, messy aesthetics is a breath of fresh air to normal, straight-laced programs. The game is about progressing through levels (with loads of sound effects and bursting texts when you hit it right), but is a throwback to modern life where our hero is nothing more than a hamster in a wheel, harassed by all sorts of troubles as in real life. You can’t actually “die” in the game, but its linearity is a an all too familiar story.
Aren’t we all running away at some point in our life?
