Today, I’m so thrilled to introduce a new column to the blog where I invite a few of my favorite bloggers to share with us their favorite illustrators (which in many cases, involved a lot of whittling down!), and our first guest is Mallory of Where the Lovely Things Are!
—————-
I love illustration. I won’t even admit to how many illustrator’s blogs I’m subscribed to because you’d think I’m semi-insane. Semi-insane because I’m not an illustrator myself (or an… art director or any other career that would logically keep tabs on the illustration world so much): I just love illustration, it’s as simple as that.
I think it all stems from my love of children’s books. Generally, people graduate to reading chapter books and leave their picture books behind: they’re packed up and tucked away. Most adults don’t touch an illustrated book again until they have children of their own: not me. Picture books have never left my shelves and never will. As someone who loves to write, I adore the stories told through words in these books, but man do I also love the illustrations.
I didn’t really get into the whole (wonderful!) world of blogs and the internet until after I graduated from college, but once I did it was only natural that I’d find myself spending hours at a time scrolling through illustrator’s portfolios / blogs. My love for illustration started through those placed in a book format, but now it encompasses the work of illustrators in all forms.
When Amy approached me about doing a guest post featuring some of my favorite illustrators, I thought I’d choose those whose work I would love to see in book form. Hey publishing companies! Make this happen.
