Pick of the litter: Kickstarter

I’ve been looking around Kickstarter lately and I’ve found a few projects that are too fantastic not to share!

DOUBLE FINE ADVENTURE ///////////

Double Fine

The first one is Double Fine Adventure – a new point and click adventure game by industry veteran Tim Schaefer who brought The Day of the Tentacle to our screens. I’ve been making squealing noises at the mere thought of having Tim bring back the genre back from the dead – the point-and-click adventure game is my favorite computer genre. EVER. If you have any doubts about my geekiness at this point, I think it’s safe to say I’m a full-on game nerd who insists on playing only a particular type of game genre. And it appears that I’m not the only one – they’ve surpassed their goal AND quadrupled their asking figure within a mere few days.

GOLDEN MOTH ILLUMINATION DECK ///////////

Aijung Kim

Next up: Aijung Kim’s Golden Moth Illumination Deck – that comprises 68 symbolic cards illuminated by the artist herself. The deck is used much like tarot cards to give insight to one’s subconscious mind. The images then become alert to your thoughts, actions, and emotional patterns; and you can decipher them however you wish.

According to Aijung:
Using the cards can help people to become more conscious and empowered about the choices they make. It is also a tool to develop your intuition and keep your mind open to seeing things from a new perspective.

You can get a deck of cards over at her Kickstarter page, or alternatively, you can get a reading from Aijung directly!

OBOS ///////////////////////

Obos

Remember those interchangeable plastic toys with parts that you can swap out for another? Obos by the Really Brothers is another Kickstarter project that aims recreate the experience with a more eco-friendly method. The entire toy is made up of recycled paperboard – everything is included within the box, and it’s fully recyclable!

The only thing hampering me from backing them is the price of their international shipping (which costs more than the toy itself!)

KIBUN //////////////////

Lastly, if you’re into plush, you should check out the Kickstarter campaign for Kibun by Andrew Lum. He intends to produce a range of toys for a character named Kibun.

Valentine’s Day picks

Valentine’s day is a bit overrated for me, but I’ll pass on a bit of a secret: you see, this is the time of the year where everything about love – cards, books, scarves, prints, anything and everything really – is produced in droves. The trick is to get something absolutely gooey and lovey-dovey, and send it to your love anytime BUT Valentine’s day.

Or better yet, get TWO gifts; one for Valentines, and another for random days when you severely need to say sorry (this happens more often that you think!)

So here’s my round-up of things that I’ve seen and liked, which can be used all day round (and not just on Valentine’s Day) because it doesn’t specifically say so:

Claudia Pearson

Claudia Pearson’s Wake up tea towel

Keeki

I’m otterly in love with you card by Keeki

Little Paper Planes

Freaking Love Card by Hillary Bird over at Little Paper Planes

Gemma Correll

I Like You art print by Gemma Correll

20x200

A Map of the Open Country of a Woman’s Heart by D.W. Kellogg & Co. over at 20×200

Bill Shapiro

Here’s my absolute favorite: Other People’s Love Letters: 150 Letters You Were Never Meant to See by Bill Shapiro

And of course, nothing beats a hand-made love letter. If you need some advice on how to pull it off, here’s a helpful but cringe-worthy how-to over at e-How.
