I’m enraged by SOPA.
From Wkikipedia:
SOPA and PIPA represent two bills in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate respectively. SOPA is short for the “Stop Online Piracy Act,” and PIPA is an acronym for the “Protect IP Act.” (“IP” stands for “intellectual property.”) In short, these bills are efforts to stop copyright infringement committed by foreign web sites, but, in our opinion, they do so in a way that actually infringes free expression while harming the Internet.
As a blogger who feature works by artists and illustrators from all over the world, including the USA (with credits and permission), my site may very well be one that’s shut down – without fair or proper justification. I believe in a free internet for all, and that it does not need the meddling hands of anyone’s government to dictate what we can or not see; or what they think is fair (which is very subjective!)
If you’re a US citizen, you can contact your local elected representative and give them a piece of your mind. If you aren’t, well feel free to write them and give them a piece of your mind anyway. UPDATE: Non-US residents can do so over here.
If you think that having someone self-elect themselves as the internet police is fine, these silly people might come up with another silly rule that dictates what you can wear or what you can draw in the future (I kid you not).
Of course by then, it’s already too late.
Let’s all get together and tell them to shove this act up their arse and to stop treating us like sheep, shall we?
The “joke” is that it would not only affect US citizens (which would be bad enough), but everyone using the internet, everyone blogging. It is completely mad.
And if any of you are from Singapore – our Law Minister is asking some agencies to implement laws similar to SOPA / PIPA.
Do pay attention and feedback to your MP if they are seeking public opinion.
Many people are supporting this initiative from Spain.
Keep on fighting 😉
