I love adventure games of the 1990s (point and click anyone?) and I’m constantly finding new games that are also based on creativity.
So it was a lovely surprise when Deborah of Tartaruga Feliz sent me an email about her latest game called Card Stories (which was made by Farsides), I was curious to see how it played out! The premise was simple:
- Pick out a card, and then you write a story for your card (think of it as illustration commission, but in reverse.)
- Other players will have to pick a card as well to add to the mix, based on the story told by you (this is to confuse other players while they figure out which one is the real card later!).
- After the rest of the players have picked out their card, it generates the cards that they have chosen (a max of 6 players = 6 cards).
- Voting begins and the person who picks out the original card is the winner!

To celebrate the soft launch of Card Stories, Deborah is giving away physical copies of the cards to 2 selected participants!

All you need to do is to craft up a story (think of it as an illustration brief!) so that Deborah can illustrate it into a card. The best story will win a pack of 36 cards + the one you helped create!
This contest ends on 29th November 2011, so write down your idea for a card in the comments below! Hint: Short stories are best!
Head over to Card Stories to play a round and test it out for yourself!
The contest has ended and the winners have been picked βΒ Kirsty and Zack! π Thanks everyone for joining in the contest!

This sounds a lot like a French game we have been playing recently called Dixit. It’s a brilliant idea for a game, and I love how it adapts to different groups of people and suits all ages. And these cards look gorgeous. I will definitely be entering the contest. Thanks for the opportunity!
Hi Katie,
I’m glad you liked the game and the illustrations! π
Looking forward to play with you and to know your ideas!!!! π
Story: A note from the captain’s daughter to the ‘Big Fish’, “Fill the night with bright. You love to dance. Signed, Regal Rusty” (This story was cobbled together from spam subject titles called “spew”.)
Card Story:
She ran out of time and crashed directly into three children. When they opened the door she dropped into a free falling sky of endless hours, animated hands and creased edges.
Card story: The sunny side up egg and bacon strip looked at each other sadly.
Card Story: I lonely boot with it’s “mouth” open on the side of the road and a one legged man on the other side…
This looks like a lot of fun! Looking forward to playing.
Card Story:
A tiger is distracted from his book by the intriguing shapes the steam from his tea has formed.
This is such an awesome idea π Love it!
The sweet elderly woman looked up from a picture of her late husband. No one had to know she killed him because he wouldn’t eat her home-made osso buco.
The butter screamed “Why are you torn into pieces?”
Luck, that’s when a prey outwits its predator.
I am lost. The signboard points east on that side and west on the other, anyhow it can wait, my stomach can’t!
No man has ever surpassed his wisdom. Those all knowing eyes were full of such intellect unattainable for mere human beings.
I just wanted to say how exciting this is. I wish more people knew about how amazing Card Stories is :)))
when I opened my trick or treat lootbag, a little frankenstein in me was born.
Card story: Once upon a time there was a girl. She wasn’t old but was also too old because she’d once made a terrible choice to let her heart be held by a boy who broke her inside and out and ruined her forever. She hated the boy for making her hate all boys and she hated herself most of all for letting him. And this was her curse.
(this is actually the miserable beginnings of something i’m working on myself. your cards are stunning and extremely inspiring!!)
Card story: He was granted three wishes, with one rule: the wish could never benefit him alone. He quickly had the idea for his first wish – it was something that the whole world needed.
card story: She just HAD to get Mr. Mustache’s attention. So Mrs. Eggplant opened her suitcase and picked her finest stockings.
Card Story: DC (Daddy Cat) whilst a big old chunky cat always wanted to be a ninja when he grew up. As a kitten he practiced his Ninja stealth moves so much he was given a Ninja costume. Now he’s a big cat he still can’t bare to take off his costume, albeit a bit too small now. He thinks that’s what makes him so stealthy and quiet.
(This is the story my boyfriend has made up about our rescued ferral cat. The cards are awesome, as are your illustrations!)
Card Story: He couldn’t believe how ridiculously massive this jiggly mold was! It towered over him, waiting to be destroyed by what his fridge mates called “humans”.
My last story was actually 11:23 pm on Nov.29 π
Thanks for taking your time to participate!
There are amazing and inspiring ideas here, congratulations to all of you! π
Tomorrow we’ll announce the winners, so stay tunned!
