What is Camp Pikaland?
Camp Pikaland is an art/craft, illustration and indie business virtual school that is tailored to artists, illustrators and designers who are in various stages of their careers. We aim to make online learning easy, accessibly and affordable!

We believe that education is not limited to the four walls of an institution. We’re dedicated to spread the idea of art education beyond borders, and we’re thrilled to provide a virtual space where artists can learn, teach and connect!

What is the idea behind Camp Pikaland?
Hi there! My name is Amy of Pikaland (a daily blog that focus on illustration and art) and I started Camp Pikaland after realizing that there are many students out there who aren’t able to learn syllabuses that they want — either because it wasn’t made available to them, or the cost associated with it, or in my case, it was a case of geography. Camp Pikaland was set up after realizing that there were a lot of other teachers who might benefit from having one place to share their skills with a global audience.

I’m a firm believer in power of community and collaboration, and Camp Pikaland will be the first of its kind to offer creatives and artists a place to go to for their learning needs. From creative thinking to art techniques, Camp Pikaland will offer a curated series of courses and classes for a global audience.

Who can enroll in the online classes?
Anyone from anywhere! As long as you have an internet connection, a PC/Mac computer and time to invest in getting the best out of the classes.

=====================================================

Any prior requirements needed to follow be a part of classes?
It depends. Most of the online classes here are tailored to a wide-range of students, and they may be in various stages of learning. Check each individual course listings for more information.

How do you choose the teachers?
We are very selective when it comes to selecting our teachers. Currently all teachers are on an invitation-only basis, and teachers are all chosen for their skills, passion and experience in the field that they are involved in.

=====================================================

Can I be a teacher?
Chances are, if you’re on this page, you’re one of the selected few whom we’ve contacted about teaching with us! But if that’s not the case (and you’ve stumbled here by accident, whoops!) all teachers are handpicked to determine suitability and relevance to Camp Pikaland’s programmes. But if you think you fit the bill, feel free to write in!

=====================================================

How does the fee structure work?
Camp Pikaland handles the admin and payment for classes conducted in Camp Pikaland. Teachers get 70% of each enrollment fee, and the rest will go towards bandwidth, software, administration, service, marketing, advertising and management fees. Think of Camp Pikaland as a consignment shop for artists and illustrators who teach!

We will also be on hand to advise all teachers on their fee proposal – if you need help, feel free to ask!

=====================================================

When will teachers get paid?
Payment is done in two tiers; teachers get paid 50% of their total percentage at the beginning of the class, and the remainder 50% will be given at the end of their course.

What’s the difference between a workshop and a self-study class?
A workshop is a class that’s held at a specific time period and lasts from 4 to 6 weeks, and the teacher/instructor participates in active discussions during the course. This arrangement is more intense, but class fees are generally higher.

A self-study class is basically a classroom on auto-pilot: You prepare and organize materials for the class and students are able to register and access the classroom almost immediately, with enrollments open all year long. Questions are answered as and when posted via the private forums. This arrangement allows for a more relaxed schedule while generating an almost passive income. Class fees are lower.

What about competition? Shouldn’t we be afraid that other teachers will feel threatened as Camp Pikaland will have other teachers as well?
Competition is never the goal. We work closely with each of our teachers within their chosen area of expertise, and will give input on how best to structure their classes. Think of it more as a collaborative effort, one that is based on teamwork. Each teacher is different with their own methodology, inspirations and ultimately, style. No two are ever alike!

By leveraging on a community effort, teachers are able to get access to a wider audience while offering something unique in return.

=====================================================

What about copyrights?
All of your classroom materials belong strictly to individual teachers. Camp Pikaland does not hold any rights over them, nor will we republish them in any way (that’s just mean!).

=====================================================

What platform am I going to use to teach at Camp Pikaland?
You’ll be using a custom learning platform that will enable you to have your own private classroom, with various tools for you to manage and deliver your learning materials, from assignments to images, videos and PDFs and more. Students will be able to interact with each other throughout the process as well.
