The truth about sitting down

Sitting Kills Infographic

This infographics just confirmed what I was thinking all along — that sitting down for extended periods of time has made me gain weight, slowly, but surely over the past couple of years.

For those like me who are on their computer or desks for long stretches at a time (I’m talking to you, artists, illustrators and fellow bloggers!) remember to take a break and walk about every 15 to 30 minutes to get the blood flowing again!

Consider this a health advisory message from Pikaland! ;)

Thanks for this! I sit way too much during the day. Occupational hazard!

Pretty scary… but like you said, designers, illustrators, bloggers, etc. have no choice that to seat in front on the computer for many hours, and it’s not realistic to think we can stretch every 15-30 minutes… I try to fit some active time in my day, but it’s not always possible, at least I do a lot at home, so no resting there until it’s time to go to bed.

ugh, tell me about it! even with regular exercise (almost every day), between my full time job and blogging, my back is constantly aching. we were not designed to sit for so damn long!

Yikes! Thanks for sharing, Amy. Better late than never to stop sitting so much.

hard to do but worth it – I’ve started setting my alarm every 30 minutes to remind me to simply stand up or walk around, sometimes eat.

I’ve been trying to find a standing-height desk that will work in my workspace. With a tall stool, you can sit if you need to, but you can stand more and move your legs around.
