Feels Good to Get Some Work Done poster by Mary Kate McDevitt
I get pretty nostalgic during the last few days before the new year, even more so when I flip through my moleskine diary and prepare a new one for some challenging time ahead (hello dog-eared pages and coffee stains!)
So instead of a new years resolution list, I thought I’d see how I fared compared last year. The list wasn’t drawn up in one sitting — I added to it throughout the year; all littered throughout the pages of my trusty journal (you can read about my obsession with lists over on this book review).
- Work smarter (and harder)
- Get more rest in between work (can you see a pattern forming already?)
- Learn how to say no gracefully, to save my sanity (and accepting that I can’t do it all)
- Figure out priorities and focus, focus, focus! (I hope to nail this one in 2011)
Sleep earlierYES!Get away from emails and stop checking it every 15 minutesDone! This was one of the easiest resolutions of the year — I only turn to my inbox for a few hours, and answering emails are done at one go every few days.Hang out with more friendsI did (mostly due to ticking off #6, haha!) and it was a blast!Fix up my non-existent kitchen and buy a fridgeDone and done! Which leads me to resolution #9…- Learn how to cook (right now I’m limited to spaghetti, pasta bakes and a couple of dishes!)
Made sure the dogs are well behavedCesar Millan helped!Read moreoh heck yes (and this proves it)- Travel more, even if it’s just for a day trip (don’t get me started on wanderlust!)
- Learn how to dance salsa again (Sigh.)
- Focus on making more art (this is yet again on this year’s list — although I was commissioned for illustrations this year, yay!)
Find the perfect moisturizer for my sensitive skinFound it! Olay’s Total Effects Gentle SPF15 — my grandmother used it since she was 60 (she’s now 85) and she looks amazing!

If you had just one thing you’d want to change in 2011, what would it be? 😉
EDIT: I think I’m going to leave this up as the last post for 2010 — as Kate already mentioned, the one thing that stands out is that I’m trying to enjoy my life a little more. Which is what I’ll be doing exactly right now.
Have a wonderful start to the new year and I’ll see you in 2011! 🙂

I all with you on numbers 6 and 14. I would also add trying to use up the fruits and veggies in my fridge each week – so I don’t waste as much (at least it compostes).
Happy New Year Amy!
One thing I’d change? Being able to follow a comprehensive work-at-home schedule so I can actually get things finished! I have so many ideas that I never realize.
It sounds like your list was mainly to enjoy life more – & it looks like you succeeded pretty well! Congrats!
One thing I’d change is location – and I plan on making that happen!
Happy New Year!
I’m always wary of New Years Resolutions because I fear they’d make me realise how disorganised I actually am 😀 But this is inspiring nonetheless!
I got that print for christmas! The perfect motivator to put over my desk. I’m with you on nailing down priorities and really focusing on them, I have been trying to get better at that all year. 2011 is going to kick 2010’s butt!
Impressive conquering of the list. I think my resolutions are going to involve being more focussed on earning dollar for my creativity, rather than polishing cutlery until four in the morning. And being on time. Happy NYE xx
cesar milan is the best. so is oil of olay… my mom and grandmother used it too and had soft, gorgeous skin. Happy New Year Amy!!! I hope this one is the best yet!
One thing would be to get a book published with my work in…sigh…I better get painting!!!
AND get off this computer…
LOVE your list!
HUGS and a HAPPY 2011 to you too.
