Resolutions 2011

Get Some Stuff Done

Feels Good to Get Some Work Done poster by Mary Kate McDevitt

I get pretty nostalgic during the last few days before the new year, even more so when I flip through my moleskine diary and prepare a new one for some challenging time ahead (hello dog-eared pages and coffee stains!)

So instead of a new years resolution list, I thought I’d see how I fared compared last year. The list wasn’t drawn up in one sitting — I added to it throughout the year; all littered throughout the pages of my trusty journal (you can read about my obsession with lists over on this book review).

  1. Work smarter (and harder)
  2. Get more rest in between work (can you see a pattern forming already?)
  3. Learn how to say no gracefully, to save my sanity (and accepting that I can’t do it all)
  4. Figure out priorities and focus, focus, focus! (I hope to nail this one in 2011)
  5. Sleep earlier YES!
  6. Get away from emails and stop checking it every 15 minutes Done! This was one of the easiest resolutions of the year — I only turn to my inbox for a few hours, and answering emails are done at one go every few days.
  7. Hang out with more friends I did (mostly due to ticking off #6, haha!) and it was a blast!
  8. Fix up my non-existent kitchen and buy a fridge Done and done! Which leads me to resolution #9…
  9. Learn how to cook (right now I’m limited to spaghetti, pasta bakes and a couple of dishes!)
  10. Made sure the dogs are well behaved Cesar Millan helped!
  11. Read more oh heck yes (and this proves it)
  12. Travel more, even if it’s just for a day trip (don’t get me started on wanderlust!)
  13. Learn how to dance salsa again (Sigh.)
  14. Focus on making more art (this is yet again on this year’s list — although I was commissioned for illustrations this year, yay!)
  15. Find the perfect moisturizer for my sensitive skin Found it! Olay’s Total Effects Gentle SPF15 — my grandmother used it since she was 60 (she’s now 85) and she looks amazing!

If you had just one thing you’d want to change in 2011, what would it be? 😉

EDIT: I think I’m going to leave this up as the last post for 2010 — as Kate already mentioned, the one thing that stands out is that I’m trying to enjoy my life a little more. Which is what I’ll be doing exactly right now.

Have a wonderful start to the new year and I’ll see you in 2011! 🙂

I lovesss me Joe Van Watering. He’s a Chicago based illustrator/designer at Threadless. I love how he combines the contrast, color, and line in pop culture with nature. He makes environmentalism look good.

Things I’m thankful for

Things I'm thankful for

Hello again everyone — I trust that you had a good weekend, with Christmas celebrations and family get-togethers (and if you don’t celebrate the season, a weekend is always a welcome treat anyway!)

Since the year end is a time for reflecting, I’m particularly enamored by this print by Laura Berger entitled Things I’m Thankful For. She’s also having a solo show (Dream Powder) on at Inkling in Chicago so if you’re in the area do drop by for a visit!
