Good to Know #7: Plagiarism

Good to Know 7

There’s a lot of giveaways the past week, and although I think it’s exciting to have more, I wanted today to be different. There won’t be one, because I think everyone would benefit from the sharing of today’s post; courtesy of our very generous participants in the Good to Know project.

There has been so much talk about plagiarism lately that I can’t help but feel a little numb. And upset. And angry at how many times I hear of others who can’t come up with an original thought. There’s this, this, and this.

As plagiarism is the topic for the latest Good to Know zine, we hear from other participants on what happened to them, and what steps they took to handle the matter. Some shared with us their difficult stories, and others had uplifting words of advice, but we were very touched by those who responded and shared generously. In that same spirit of generosity, the entire copy of the Good to Know issue #7 is available to read online over on ISSUU. (For those who still love a physical copy/ or prefer to read a downloaded copy, you can get their fix right here. )

Also, a big thank you to Julia Rothman of Book by its Cover and Amy Everhart for so generously allowing their very helpful FAQ on Copyright to be reproduced in the issue. And of course, Seth Godin is in there too.

On a side note, Pikaland just turned 2 years old in February! A special thank you goes to our sponsors, who have graciously supported us through it all, and also for those who purchase Pikaland’s Good to Know zine series.

I agree the issue of plagiarism makes me sad and feel really frustrated as well. There are more and more stories popping up these days and I don’t really know if there is a solution to it all… on a brighter note – Congrats on being 2 years old…I always love to read your posts and check out the great artists you feature. Thanks for doing this.
