Ty Wilkins is an illustrator and graphic designer who lives in Wichita, Kansas, and while I forgot where I initially found his lovely animals, I still marvel at how beautifully simple they are. I can almost see them made into pretty logos.

Ty is also a typography man, and is the founder and editor of Type Theory, a journal of contemporary typography featuring news, views, reviews and interviews.

Happy Doodle Land

The ever lovely Flora from Happy Doodle Land has finally opened up shop! The Taiwan-born designer has a MFA from Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and currently designs products for kids during the day (and draws aplenty the rest of the time!) Her artworks are simply a joy to have around the house, and has a nice retro feel to them. Here’s something interesting that I’ve noticed as well: her work has plenty of curves… a feature that I am particularly drawn to.

For now, she’s having a promotion in her new shop – buy one of her prints and the second one is USD$5 off!

{Congrats Flora!}

Thunder Chunky Time Capsule

Pikaland is back after a two-week holiday! I hope you had a well-rested holiday amid lots of fun-filled moments with friends and family — I’m looking forward to see what surprises 2010 will bring! I’ll start the first post of the year with something apt — how about a time capsule?

Thunder Chunky — a design, illustration and inspiration portal has wrapped up the decade in a little nifty website called the Thunder Chunky Time Capsule. What is it? Well think of it as an online time capsule as opposed to a real-life one. It’s a digital trove filled with images submitted by various chosen artists and image makers that best represent themselves. Double click to see and read more of each entry, and you can move them around to see them all (just remember to let the site load up first!)
