And the long story…

Where do I begin?

Hello, my name is Amy. I launched re:makeables, my online blog and a small webstore in January 2007, being an avid craft lover and a part time doodler. As time passed, I realized that I was posting up more and more works by illustrators while I was exploring the art, which was made all the more obvious as I struggled to add in more crafty content (taking out a pen and paper was easier for me than hauling my sewing machine up!). It slowly dawned on me that this pastime of drawing, and finding new inspirations and links made me extremely happy.

The first step for me to venture out of my comfort zone saw me joining Illustration Friday, submitting my work for others to see, and for me to see other lovely people at work. It was liberating — I found much joy to be able to complete an illustration piece, so much that I didn’t mind not sleeping at all, my brain and fingers working in tune to complete my work. Through IF, I’m slowly building up my portfolio. And the great thing was all the fantastic people I get to meet. I think that the illustration world is my happy place; it’s my retreat and a space that constantly inspires me.

And recently, when I became a houseowner, all I wanted to do was to fill it with the works of others – illustrators, artists and crafters. I immersed myself in illustration and the world of illustrators, and found myself smiling at every turn, my heart soar just by looking at their works.

I looked high and low for a blog that focused on news from the illustration/craft circle – with new updates from illustrators and of their wares for sale so that I could slowly take my pick and choose what I can find to fill my home. I didn’t find any. I’m constantly finding new inspirations and wares from artists’ and illustrators’ works that are available for sale, and so I thought I’d gather it into a place where I can keep them all together.

And so, Pikaland was born. I hope you’ll enjoy looking at the wonderful works of others, as much as I love looking for them.

UPDATE I now have my own dedicated illustration portfolio after I was commissioned for several works, and a personal Etsy shop where I sell prints, zines and other bits and bobs. 🙂

xoxo
Amy
