Seaside 2: An original embroidered work on goache

Shannon Rankin is an interdisciplinary artist based in Maine, where she keeps herself busy at her Selflesh Etsy store. Her work is based on her search of finding connections between geography, anatomy, and botany. She combines the visual elements of maps, anatomical illustrations, and natural forms to explore themes of travel, healing, and time.

Hands; Heart from the Map Collage print series

She just recently launched her new collection of embroidered paintings, of which my favorite has to be Seaside 2, where it’s a one-of-a-kind signed piece that’s made with gouache and embroidery.

She also has a blog, and among her flickr pages I found her a picture of her studio/shed in the woods.

And here’s a little tidbit about Shannon: apparently she’s an obsessive furniture mover! 🙂
