\nA dot here and a dash there.
\nYou pause. Furrowed brows.
\nIt\u2019s all wrong.<\/p>\n

Crumple.<\/i><\/p>\n

Again.
\nBeads of sweat
\nacross your head.
\nMuscles tense
\nin your hand.<\/p>\n

Ready<\/i>.<\/p>\n

A dance forms between your sheets.
\nPen and paper mingle and intertwine,
\nleaving traces of themselves
\nover each other.<\/p>\n

Again and again.<\/p>\n

A rhythm ensues, a careful one.
\nSoon, soon.
\nDon\u2019t hurry
\nBut soon.<\/p>\n

A sound from afar breaks your flow.
\nYou stop, alight and awake.
\nA short walk,
\na break for now.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s ugly.
\nWhat was I thinking?
\nUgh.
\nNo.<\/p>\n

No.<\/i><\/p>\n

With hands up in the air,
\nA fistful of hair,
\nForehead on knee.
\nYou surrender inevitably.<\/p>\n

Sleep, sweet surrender.
\nTwas not to be.
\nEyes wide awake,
\nHeavy breaths, restless heart.<\/p>\n

The brain churns,
\nThe body turns,
\nLike rusty wheels set in motion
\nThe haze lifts, slowly.<\/p>\n

Surely.<\/p>\n

Crawl<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Scratches in the shadows,
\nA hunched back,
\nThe dance continues
\nBy the light of the lamp<\/p>\n

Shhh don\u2019t scare it away
\nQuiet, quiet.
\nSquint your eyes
\nErase all thoughts<\/p>\n

Make space
\nFor that glimmer of hope
\nThe lighting strikes
\nAll but once<\/p>\n

Tap, dig, move,
\nMake way for inspiration
\nWhen it comes.
\nGrasp, grasp.<\/p>\n

Reach.<\/i><\/p>\n

Paw, wrestle, claw.
\nKiss it, embrace it,
\nPut it all down.
\nBefore you go blank
\nforevermore.<\/p>\n
