{"id":39163,"date":"2015-06-26T20:00:37","date_gmt":"2015-06-26T12:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pikaland.com\/staging\/?p=39163"},"modified":"2015-06-27T17:17:50","modified_gmt":"2015-06-27T09:17:50","slug":"review-nature-anatomy-curious-parts-pieces-natural-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.pikaland.com\/staging\/2015\/06\/26\/review-nature-anatomy-curious-parts-pieces-natural-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Review: Nature Anatomy: The Curious Parts &#038; Pieces of the Natural World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/z4eJvwdaVw8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>I&#8217;ve been a fan of Julia Rothman for the longest time\u00a0<em>ever.\u00a0<\/em>You might remember my review of\u00a0her first book of, <i><a title=\"Review: Farm Anatomy by Julia Rothman\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pikaland.com\/staging\/2011\/10\/21\/review-farm-anatomy-by-julia-rothman\/\">Farm Anatomy<\/a>,\u00a0<\/i>and so\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/1GpiUmB\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>Nature Anatomy<\/em><\/strong><\/a> is\u00a0her second visual guidebook for Storey Publishing.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a beautiful book, and the fact that the entire 224 pages of it is fully illustrated makes it a treat for nature lovers, scientists and for anyone who loves reading about facts and learning something new. I can imagine this being a great book for kids as well \u2013 it&#8217;s colourful, interesting and with lots of snippets of information sandwiched between each page, is a treasure trove for inquisitive children. There&#8217;s also recipes, crafting instructions and an lesson on how\u00a0to paint landscapes!<\/p>\n<p>From the anatomy of flowers to beautiful barks, from the various types of water bodies to the inner workings of mountains; each of the seven chapters covered in the book is a wonderful introduction into nature and its many inhabitants. There is no way to include even a small portion of the enormous world around us in a book of any size. Where does it end. There is an infinite amount to learn about, from the constellations to the core of the earth. I guess I think of this project as MY nature book. It&#8217;s the information I was interested in learning about, the things I wanted to draw and paint. While it is only a teeny scratch on the surface, it has given me a chance to become acquainted with plants, animals, trees, grasses, bugs, precipitation, land masses and bodies of water that I wanted to be able to name when I walked by.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Her fried, John Nieskrasz was her companion throughout the making of the book, and was an influential green voice and tour guide in her rediscovery through nature.
