When artists come together, the result can be amazing. Case in point? Node, a project initiated by Chris Haughton – a designer and illustrator of children’s books and Akshay Sthapit, who brought together 18 artists to create 18 hand-knotted rugs, handmade by traditional Nepalese carpet makers. The rug makers, Kumbeshwar, are founding members of Fair Trade Nepal. Employees are taught literacy and skills; and in addition to fair wages, their work supports a school of 260 children and an orphanage of nineteen.
Node launches tomorrow in the UK and it will be so exciting to see how this project will turn out!
For those who are interested in producing your own fair trade rug, you can check it out here.
