I’m still fairly new to all this, but I actually started out by wanting to be more creative, but I thought “I can’t draw!” etc and so started with collage and a visual journal. Once that had sparked my creativity back into action I started painting with acrylics. Nowadays I use mainly pen and pencil, and sometimes watercolour. But I’m still constantly trying to experiment with different materials etc! ~ Sara

  2. Ingrid says:

I started with watercolors, because I always felt it was easy to get a lovely and visually appealing result even if it wasn’t expertly painted. Painting with watercolors was and still is relaxing, so it remains my favorite medium. 🙂

Ahh! Thanks for offering such neat giveaways. I have been doing art since I could pick up crayons, but I remember using my Dad’s carpenter and wood pencils the most. They were big and I could hold them easily with my little hands, and they never needed to be sharpened. I also loved to draw on newspapers and magazines! I have come a long way since those days…thank goodness!

  4. Suzanne says:

I started out with Black Warrior pencils and Ultra Fine Sharpies. I use a Bamboo tablet now when I draw, but honestly prefer pencils and Sharpies.

  5. Sarah Lynn says:

I started out with the good ol’ HB pencil and kraft paper, haha. Nothing beats simplicity!

Now to soothe my scribble-needs I use microns and charcoal. But my main focus has moved away from the paper and onto oil based clay & plaster!

  6. Ellie Craze says:

When I first started out, I used ballpoint pens, I still love them, but now I love using microns.

  7. nell says:

Started out around age 5 with my dah and his oil paints and pastels… moved on to water colors and then tempra and acrylic. Now I use all mediums from graphite to inks and so on 🙂 not a very exciting story but I had to start some where lol

  8. Rebecca says:

I started out drawing on the dot matrix print outs my mom and dad would bring home from work-I went through paper so fast. Pencil has always been my fave from the start. It has to be sharp!

  9. Letisia says:

I love ink, also pencil, markers and textures. Mixed media facinates me, so I try to mix it all up. I just discovered your blog and really like it here. Great giveaways to boot! xoxo

  10. Alexandre says:

I start with HB and eraser…Then Scan and Manga Studio & Photoshop…for paintings before i used watercolored but now i prefer acrylic

  11. Ã…sa says:

I guess crayons when I was a little kid, then pencil which I have stuck with since and some times pen and ink. But I love making different kinds of textures with acrylics and various materials.Thou when Im animating im tracing in flash, but still love using textures to get a more hand drawn feel to it.

  12. Karina says:

I first started out with the Berol handwriting pens they use to give you each term at school and some fat Crayola washable markers.
I loved cutting out the Ducktales comics my mum used to buy me and rearrange them with hand drawn speech bubbles to make nonsensical stories!

  13. Aline says:

I started out as a little kid with bamboo pens and China ink that my mother gave me for my birthday. Oh – and wax crayons! I loved those. I still use them from time to time but mostly draw with graphite and paint with oils and acrylics.

  14. Fantasy D. says:

When I first started? Really think black gel pens. And really fine point markers. The finer point it had, the better. I don’t know what the reasoning was….but it’s stuck to this day and that’s still what I use. (when I’m not using acrylics or spraypaint).

  15. Miss Lemon says:

I started out with the simple pencil and paper. I drew and drew!

  16. Kateh says:

I think i started out with crayola markers. I still love using markers, but I’ve long since graduated to prismacolor ones.

  17. bonnie says:

I started out w/ prisma colour markers (and of course pencil & micron pens)…now I do most of the colouring in photoshop, but I do miss the smell of the markers and getting ink all over my fingers.

  18. fluffy Pink Marshmallow bunny says:

alas, i dont have any skills other than knitting and such, but i have to say i love your work its so cute! i wish i could draw, but ive given up trying to delude myself into thinking i can, and im gonna leave it to the experts like you !

  19. I started out using 4b and 6b pencils and charcoal. I loved being able to get dirty and shade with my fingers…still do!

  20. xjaeva says:

    This is a fun question.
I first started out with sarcasm. It was a gradual process figuring out which medium to apply that to.
Having supplies on hand I made up a card for my sister where I called her a slut and wished her merry christmas.
Those are still the materials I use. (i’m loyal)

  21. Toilet Trained at Gunpoint says:

I really sketch only for jewelry design, but I love gel pens, especially when they were a new thing and I was in college. I did a lot of anatomical art in the margins of my workbooks. I am a much better 3D artist, so I really think PDT’s art is fascinating. It’s unique and different, definitely with its own style.

  22. picklelady says:

I started with a geeky drive, pencils, and graph paper. Slowly I’m learning to draw directly on the ‘puter. I LOVE your work!

  23. Suzanne says:

Oh the humble, yet mighty, HB!!! Held in little chubby fingers up against fresh white pages, trying to express something my young brain couldn’t comprehend in words. That’s how I started out. Daydreaming in black white and all shades inbetween 🙂

  24. HiiRagi says:

An HB pencil. I STILL draw with an HB pencil. I love HB pencils, especially when they have been whittled down….every time I pick one up I just want to draw something.

  25. Juleah says:

I started out making throw pillows out of old concert tshirts and embroidered them, which I learned from my Granny when I was eight.

  26. anna rose says:

    Started with?

That would most deff be crayons…

My first “real” art set, was actually some of my mom’s castoff pastels, I LOVED them….

  27. Started out with? That goes back a long, long time, but I do remember being thrilled when Bic pens came out in the 60s (is that correct?)…and sadly, I remember the very first felt tipped pens…but I started out with Crayola crayons as a child…and I still love them! I’ve graduated to Prismacolor pencils and markers, and love Stabilo pastel pencils, but Crayolas will always have a place in my heart! Thanks for the chance to win!

  28. Ruedlma says:

Well, I’m more or less still in the “baby” steps stage. I’ve been an avid doodler my whole life. I couldn’t keep a blank page so .. clean. I mainly use just general everyday pens. Sometimes I venture off into the land of card stock and watercolors. I hope to be able to say in the future I use ink and lots of acrylic. But, that’s definitely a while away!

  29. Suzabell says:

I draw and doodle with any writing instrument I can get my hands on, and I started with crayons. Now, I most like using pencil and fine tip markers, and watercolors if I’m feeling particularly talented that day (a rare event).

  30. hatesbees says:

I started out with crayons, my parents used to let me look out the windows and draw the rain on the wall below them when I was maybe four.

After that my love affair for bold line ball point pens started and they are still my favorite.

Can I just say I love poorlydrawnthings? My fingers itch acquisitively every time I see an item of hers. Must own.

  31. Alicia says:

I started with crayons and markers, later graduated to sharpies and xactos and now love paper!

  32. Elisa says:

Pencil and a love for Bugs Bunny
