#2: How to Survive and Thrive as an Artist Online

So after weeks of drawing, looking, sweat and toil you’ve finally decided you’re ready to share your art with the world! Woo-hoo! Having already developed your own personal style and look to your art you may now be wondering how to translate that persona online, making your online persona just as artistic and tailored to your personal tastes as your art! Having great art is half the battle, the other half is how it’s presented and received!

This four week course is aimed specifically at online marketing for fine artists and illustrators. Structured for those just developing their online presence to those who need a good critique or want to make their existing persona better! Our online expertise and knowledge of what makes a great online presence will be supplemented with examples from our favorite blogs, shops, and websites from across the web! We’ll break down what makes a great online persona work and how you can best achieve you’re own persona, with weekly one-on-one critiques and exercises aimed specifically at bringing out the best in you and your art online! From introductions, marketing, and self-promotion to how to sustain yourself, each week we’ll discuss a different topic providing essential tips and information and how to make your mark matter!

Requirements
For this course you will need a basic understanding of social media networking sites such as facebook, blogger, twitter, etsy etc. (don’t worry if you don’t already have a blog or shop we can guide you on where to begin but some existing knowledge of these sites helps!)

Amy is a former architecture + design magazine editor who is infatuated with art and illustration; especially the meeting between the two. She has given Etsy talks on creativity and on looking at things with fresh eyes — whether it’s art or business. Her mind runs a mile a minute with ideas, and she would love to let others tap into it! About Jamie

Jamie Shelman is a painter, artist, cat fancier, and cycling fanatic. She graduated from The Rhode Island School of Design in 2006 with studies abroad in Rome, Italy and Sydney College of the Arts, Australia. She currently lives with her husband, artist Tom Meyer, in Roland Park, Baltimore, Maryland recently relocated from Martha’s Vineyard by way of NYC. She loves minimal forms of expression that contain within them an ability to engage the viewer’s imagination without filling in all the blanks. Her work has been exhibited in NYC, Providence, RI, Cape Cod and Australia. She’s been featured on several blogs including Apartment Therapy, Oh Joy!, Black Eiffel, Dear Ada, {frolic}, hey susy*, and many more. She is currently working on her first “children’s” book with great hope for publication!
